by Neil B. Blair, President of Saint Paul School of Theology

Dear Saint Paul Community,

As most of you know, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church met in St. Louis the past four days. The purpose was for elected General Conference delegates from around the world to decide on a plan to accept, change or alter the Book of Discipline regarding issues of human sexuality and the role of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people in the church. The primary issues revolved around the ordination of LGBTQ persons and officiating at same-sex marriages.

The General Conference considered several plans and approved the plan known as the “traditional plan.” This plan broadens the church’s current prohibitions on same-sex marriages and ordination of LGBTQ persons; and it now mandates additional structures for enforcing those rules.

Saint Paul has long had in place a commitment of non-discrimination towards LGBTQ persons. Saint Paul School of Theology welcomes ALL qualified persons seeking theological education. We are dedicated to providing the best theological education to our current and future students as they fulfill their desire to learn and experience the unconditional love of Jesus Christ within the community of Saint Paul School of Theology. Our doors are open, and we look forward to you joining us!

Uniting Methodists is a movement rather than an organization. As a movement we are striving for greater inclusion and genuine representation in pursuit of shared goals. The statements found on this website represent our current consensus about important questions before the church. We invite suggestions, critique, and engaging conversations from persons across the UMC. The Uniting Methodists Leadership Team views this work as iterative and certain to be added to and enhanced over time.

* Uniting Methodists is a not-for-profit movement made up of members of The United Methodist Church and is not associated in any way with Room for All, Inc., an LGBTQ advocacy organization in the Reformed Church in America.
